It has been a very busy month, not that it is different from any other month though.
VOLLEYBALL is in full swing. Rachel is playing JV volleyball at Liberty Ranch for another month. Her team has been playing very well. They have 2 games every week. I have really enjoyed spending time with Debbie driving to all the games. Since the restaurant opened we do not spend alot of time together. This has been great driving up to Placerville almost every week to see Rachel and Candice play.
BASEBALL is crazy! Josh is still playing for Galt Thunder. I think this is his 3rd year. We are also playing for an Elk Grove team, The Outlaws. Josh had his first tourney with them a week ago and they took first place. They played 5 games that weekend and won them all. Josh played 3rd base, he pitched and played out in right field. He is doing really well. He played great 2 weekends ago for Thunder. He was out in right field and threw out 6 guys at first base, WHAT AN ARM!
I am so excited for the fall weather that is finally coming around! After sitting in the 100+ degree weather last weekend watching ball, I am ready for sweatshirts and jeans. I will keep on my flip flops though...

RIP John Hughes...Thanks for everything!
WOW, I could not even imagine my teenage years without you!!!
Mr. Mom (1983) was one of his first movies that most of you might remember seeing. Then we go into the list of some of my ALL TIME favorite flicks. Some of which to this day I could quote anyone out of the water...at least years ago I could have. Maybe I still could???
SIXTEEN CANDLES (1984)
The Geek: How's it going?
Samantha: How's what going?
The Geek: You know - things, life, whatnot.
Samantha: Life is not whatnot, and it's none of your business.
Samantha: May I be excused?
Grandma Helen: Where are you going?
Samantha: I have a dance to go to at school. It's a very important dance... we're being graded on it for Gym.
Lumberjack: What's your last name?
Long Duk Dong: Dong.
Lumberjack: What's your first name?
Long Duk Dong: Long.
Lumberjack: What's your middle name?
Long Duk Dong: Duk.
Samantha: Donger's here for five hours, and he's got somebody. I live here my whole life, and I'm like a disease.
Long Duk Dong: Very clever dinner. Appetizing food fit neatly into interesting round pie.
Mike Baker: It's a quiche.
Long Duk Dong: How do you spell?
Grandpa Fred: Well you don't spell it, son, you eat it.
Samantha: This is Farmer Fred.
The Geek: Ted.
Samantha: Oh, I'm sorry, Farmer Ted.
The Geek: I'm not really a farmer. I'm a freshman.
Howard: What was he wearing? Well, uh, let's see, he was wearing a red argyle sweater, and tan trousers, and red shoes... No, he's not retarded.
Samantha: Thanks for getting my undies back.
Jake: Thanks for coming over.
Samantha: Thanks for coming to get me.
Jake: Happy Birthday, Samantha. Make a wish.
Samantha: It already came true.
THE BREAKFAST CLUB (1985)
Richard Vernon: Don't mess with the bull, young man. You'll get the horns.
John: I just wanna know how one becomes a janitor because Andrew here is very interested in pursuing a career in the custodial arts.
Andrew: What do you need a fake I.D. for?
Brian: So I can vote.
Claire Standish: What's your name?
John Bender: What's yours?
Claire Standish: Claire.
John Bender: Claire?
Claire Standish: Claire. It's a family name.
John Bender: Oh, it's a fat girl's name.
Claire Standish: Oh, thank you.
John Bender: You're welcome.
Claire Standish: I'm not fat.
John Bender: Well not at present, but I can see you really pushing maximum density. See I'm not sure if you know this, but there are two kinds of fat people: there's fat people that were born to be fat, and there's fat people that were once thin but became fat... so when you look at 'em you can sorta see that thin person inside. You see, you're gonna get married, you're gonna squeeze out a few puppies and then, uh...
John Bender: That's very clever, sir. But what if there's a fire? I think violating fire codes and endangering the lives of children would be unwise at this juncture in your career, sir.
WEIRD SCIENCE (1985)
Garry: That's not a bad idea.
Wyatt: What?
Garry: Making a girl. Actually making a girl. Like Frankenstein... except cuter.
Wyatt: [stands up] You're serious?
[Gary grabs Wyatt by the collar and pulls him towards him]
Garry: Look me in the eye. Do I look serious?
Wyatt: Gary Wallace, that's-that's gross! That's sick! I am not digging up dead girls!
[Gary puts his hand over Wyatt's mouth and sits him down on the bed]
Garry: No, I'm not talking about digging up dead girls, Wyatt. I'm talking about your system, idiot, your computer!
Gary is chanting incoherently. Wyatt seemed very confused by his best friend's odd behaviour. They are both wearing bras on their heads]
Wyatt: Gary?... By the way, why are we wearing bras on our heads?
Garry: [hesitates] Ceremonial.
Garry: How's your stomach?
Wyatt: It's a little better.
Garry: [starts pacing] If you're going to float an air biscuit, let me know, okay?
Wyatt: [confused] Float a what?
Garry: [slightly annoyed] If you're gonna fart, squeeze cheese, let me know, okay? I'll hit the fan!
Wyatt: I'm sorry, Gary, it's just I suffer from pan displacement due to occasional stomach upset.
Garry: How about Lisa?
Lisa: Why Lisa?
Garry: Why not?
Wyatt: He used to like a girl named Lisa.
Lisa: [smiles] Oh yeah? Old girlfriend?
Wyatt: She kicked him in the nuts.
Garry: [annoyed] Will you shut the hell up?
Wyatt: [sympathetically] Look Gary, it wasn't your fault. All you said was hello to her.
Garry: [annoyed] Look Wyatt, shut up!
PRETTY IN PINK (1986)
Duckie: We don't have none of this stuff in the boy's room! Wait a minute! We don't got none of this... we don't got doors on the stalls in the boy's room, we don't have, what is this? What's this? We don't have a candy machine in the boy's room!
Iona: Andie, hon. Listen, it's after 7:00. Don't waste good lip gloss.
Duckie: You know what an older women does for me?
Iona: Changes your diapers?
Duckie: Touché.
Duckie: [as he is leaving Andies' room with a juice box in hand] Drinking and driving don't mix.
Duckie: That's why I ride a bike.
Iona: Does he have... strong lips?
Andie: How can you tell?
Iona: Did you feel it in your knees?
Andie: I felt it everywhere.
IONA: Strong lips.
[laughs]
Iona: I know I'm old enough to be his mother, but when the Duck laid that kiss on me last night, I swear my thighs just went up in flames! He must practice on melons or something.
Andie: Were you here long?
Duckie: No, no! Three, four... hours.
Duckie: Well, that's very nice. I'm glad. Well here's... here's the point, Andie. I'm not particularly concerned with whether or not you like me, because I live to like you and... and I can't like you anymore. So... so when you're feeling real low and... and dirty, and your heart is splattered all over hell, don't look to me to pump you back up 'cause... 'cause... 'cause maybe for the first time in your life I WON'T BE THERE!
Andie: I can't believe your saying this.
FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF (1986)
Ferris: The key to faking out the parents is the clammy hands. It's a good non-specific symptom; I'm a big believer in it. A lot of people will tell you that a good phony fever is a dead lock, but, uh... you get a nervous mother, you could wind up in a doctor's office. That's worse than school. You fake a stomach cramp, and when you're bent over, moaning and wailing, you lick your palms. It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so is high school.
Ferris: Ladies and gentlemen, you are such a wonderful crowd, we'd like to play a little tune for you. It's one of my personal favorites and I'd like to dedicate it to a young man who doesn't think he's seen anything good today - Cameron Frye, this one's for you.
Cameron: [screams]
Sloane: Ferris! Get off of the float!
Ferris: If you're not over here in fifteen minutes, you can find a new best friend.
Cameron: You've been saying that since the fifth grade.
Grace: Oh, Ed. You just sounded like Dirty Harry just then.
Ed Rooney: Really? Thanks, Grace.
Cameron: Okay Ferris, can we just let it go, please?
Sloane: Ferris, please. You've gone to far. We're going to get busted.
Ferris: A: You can never go too far. B: If I'm gonna get busted, it is not gonna be by a guy like that.
Ferris: Cameron, what have you seen today?
Cameron: Nothing good.
Ferris: Nothing - wha - what do you mean nothing good? We've seen everything good. We've seen the whole city! We went to a museum, we saw priceless works of art! We ate pancreas!
Ed Rooney: I don't trust this kid any further than I can throw him.
Grace: Well, with your bad knee Ed, you shouldn't throw anybody... Its true.
Ed Rooney: What is so dangerous about a character like Ferris Bueller is he gives good kids bad ideas.
Grace: Mmm-hmm.
Ed Rooney: Last thing I need at this point in my career is fifteen hundred Ferris Bueller disciples running around these halls. He jeopardizes my ability to effectivley govern this student body.
Grace: Well, makes you look like an ass is what he does, Ed.
Jeannie: There is an intruder - male, Caucasian, possibly armed, certainly weird - in my kitchen... M-my-my-my name is Bueller...
[pause]
Jeannie: Look, it's real nice that you hope my brother is feeling better, but I'm in danger, okay? I am very cute, very alone and very protective of my body. I don't want it violated or killed, all right? I need help! Speaka de English?
SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL (1987)
Keith: Well, I like art, I work in a gas station, my best friend is a tomboy. These things don't fly too well in the American high school.
Keith: You can't tell a book by its cover.
Watts: No, but you can tell how much it's gonna cost you.
Keith: Wow, I never knew you were so deep.
Watts: You want shallow, call Amanda Jones.
Hardy Jenns: Look, I'm perfectly willing to forget this. Okay? I see no reason in carrying this on any longer. It was a joke. It's gone too far. It's over. Okay?
Keith Nelson: You want the truth? You want the plain truth? You're over.
[Keith turns to leave]
Amanda Jones: Are you just gonna leave?
Keith Nelson: There isn't anything I could do to him that he hasn't already done to himself.
Amanda Jones: I wish I could live with that.
[Amanda walks up to Hardy and slaps him across the face. She then slaps him again]
Watts: [putting on Keith's diamond earrings] What do you think?
Keith: You look good wearing my future.
And lets not forget Uncle Buck or the Vacation films as well.
I think of all his movies my favorite would have to be Pretty in Pink. I love this story so much. I love Andie and Duckie and Blaine. (His name is Blaine? That's a major appliance! That's not a name!) and it has one of my favorite movie soundtracks of all time!!! This might surprise you that I pick this movie. Maybe I do not have a favorite one because I just love them all!!! I did a Breakfast Club tribute when Josh had Saturday School. That is one of my favorite posts of all time on my Blog.
Ferris: Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
I'm off like a dirty shirt. Man, I love Ducky...

Man, I Hate When That Happens
So I often read on friends blogs about the funny things that their little ones say. I miss all the funny words or phrases that my own messed up on, like Rachel learning the alphabet:
Q, R, S, T, U, V, Double Me, X, Y and Z.
And no matter how many times we corrected her, she kept saying it.
So today when she yelled downstairs, I about knocked myself out laughing...
Mom can we wash my Roxy bag?
What bag?
My pink Roxy one. My ESTROGEN spilled in it.
What (HAHAHA) did you say???
My ESTROGEN! It spilled in my bag. You know that blue stuff for my face!
You mean (HAHAHA) your ASTRINGENT???
I hate when my ESTROGEN spills in my bag. They need to do something about the bottle.

Josh vs Brian
I often write on here about Rachel and her friends, but not about Josh and his friends. Josh has been friends with Brian since Kindergarten. Now boys don't go around saying who their 'best friend' is, but if Josh had to pick one, it would be Brian. They were in different classes, but Josh's kinder teacher was Brian's mom, Kristin or Mrs. Szyper-sounds like zipper. They were on the same team their first year playing baseball. That was the beginning of a great friendship and many years of playing ball together. The first time Josh spent the night at the Szyper home, Kristin's husband Toby asked,
"Does Josh come with instructions?"
I am not sure what happened that night, but I do know that they have spent a lot of time together since age 5. And whether they are playing soccer or baseball or just hanging out, I am glad that these guys are great friends!!!
Ocassionally, the boys play against each other and Josh hates it!!! Today was one of those days. There is no pressure involved in playing against friends...WHATEVER! Luckily they both played well and hit off each other, they did not strike each other out and after the game they are still friends...Even though they beat us this time 7-1 BUT last time we beat them 13-0!
Brian pitching to Josh:

Josh pitching to Brian:

Josh catching today:

Josh is #3, Brian is the tall kid:

And this cute guy is Colby Jax! He is Brian's little bro who loves Josh and who Josh totally loves right back!

Hey Mom can you get me a drink?
I say:

Catching Up...with RACHEL
Rachel participated in the Sierra Valley Championships up in Folsom at Vista Del Lago on May 1st and 2nd. This was the last Galt High School swim meet of the season. Her times were good enough on Friday so she was able to swim on Saturday. Josh and I went up to watch her. She took 2nd place on her Backstroke and 8th on her Freestyle. Overall the JV girls took 4th place out of 7 teams.
I added the above picture so you can see how hard it was raining for a while. It rained quite a bit during the meet...

Part 2
COLON CANCER???
So as we are leaving the Doctors office, we set up an appointment for a Colonoscopy, December 19. It was the first available appoinment, almost 2 weeks away...
COLON CANCER???
We are walking out to the car and I feel like I want to die. I feel like my heart is in my throat. I look at him as he is walking and he starts to make some jokes. I laugh along with him, there is nothing else to do...
COLON CANCER???
Now at this point we had not told anyone, not anyone, about what was going on. No one knew. They knew that we had some doctor appoinments, and we were running some tests to figure out what was wrong. No one knew that something had been sent out for a BIOPSY. We did not tell anyone that something had been found...
COLON CANCER???
Have you ever had one of those moments in your life, one of those moments that you feel like you can't breathe and you are not sure what to do? You feel lost and don't know where to turn. That is how I felt that day. The day I found out that my husband had CANCER. I felt like I was reliving the phone call from my dad, saying that my mom had Breast Cancer and moments later, my mom walked into the house and she fell into my arms, sobbing. I felt the same way I did when I walked into the doctor's office and got one of those looks from my dad, that only he could give me, and I heard the doctor say that my dad had Stomach Cancer...
COLON CANCER???
Now I have to relive it all again...Are you kidding me? But this time with my husband? What are our kids going to think when we tell them? How can I look at them and tell them that now a third person who they love has CANCER? How am I going to look in the mirror and try to convince myself that everything is going to be OK?

Now I have to relive it all again...Are you kidding me? But this time with my husband? What are our kids going to think when we tell them? How can I look at them and tell them that now a third person who they love has CANCER? How am I going to look in the mirror and try to convince myself that everything is going to be OK?
COLON CANCER!!!

SHEESH...FINALLY!!!
So while I was in the Bay Area, Josh was playing baseball. I looked at my phone several times and realized that his 9:00 game had started. I wondered what was going on and how he was playing. My phone rings about 9:25ish and I see that it is David calling. I thought, "Great he hit a home run and I missed it!"
Hello?
Hi Mom.
Josh?
Yeah.
What are you doing?
I got ejected.
WHAT?
I got ejected from the game.
WHY?
I ran into the pitcher?
What? You ran into the catcher?
No, I ran into the pitcher.
WHY?
He was on the baseline, blocking the plate and I was stealing home on a dropped third strike. I ran into the pitcher, so they threw me out of the game. I am sitting in the stands.
Uncle Todd said, "You are not a real baseball player until you get ejected from a game."

San Mateo Spring Classic
Rachel and I had a fun trip this weekend. We started out Friday night driving down to San Mateo. We went with our friends the Parino's, Sylvia and Brittnie and Ashley Joseph. We stayed in an AWESOME hotel, the Marriot. The rooms were great and very spacious and the beds were so comfortable!!! We all shared a room the first night and then Rachel and I got our own room Saturday.
We played games Saturday morning and into the afternoon. We then headed back to the hotel, where the girls swam and talked in the spa. Our friends the Duro's, Sandi and Erica and the Walton's, Kim and Nikki, and Evalin Fiatoa hung out with us. For dinner we headed to Red Lobster, for some good food and many laughs!!!
So of course, I have a story to tell about this trip...We were leaving the hotel to go to dinner. I was on the phone with my sister, telling her about our games for the day. We walked out to the parking lot and I was on the phone, I got into the Tahoe. I am sitting in there talking on the phone, I am wondering where everyone went. I look around and realize that I am not in Sylvia's car...I am in a different car, sitting in the front seat, just talking away! Lucky for me no one was in this car! So I just start cracking up and kind of screaming and laughing and explaining to Kara what just happened. Of course everyone was wondering where I was. Kim and Sandi drive around the corner wondering what we are all laughing at...so I had to explain all of this to them and it was just funny! OK so it was a Suburban, not even the same color.
One more Tournament to go...

SIXTH CHALLENGE
Thanks for this Shellee...I needed to do a new recipe anyway! I was dying to see what would come up and I was kind of sad that it was something recent and not embarrasing to anyone...HAHA
This is a picture of what Rachel made for her German class. She had to prepare a meal, bring in recipes and take pictures.
We got this out of Emeril's Junior Cookbook. We have made it many times since and we love it!!!
GERMAN APPLE PANCAKE
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup whole milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
*We used Granny Smith, it is the best flavor for this!
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Pinch of salt
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
Confectioners' sugar
Maple syrup (optional)
In a large mixing bowl, combine the beaten eggs, milk, flour, and vanilla, and whisk until just blended, being careful to not overmix. Set the batter aside to rest at least 20 minutes.
Position rack in center of oven and preheat the oven to 450ºF.
In a heavy ovenproof 12-inch skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter over high heat. Add the apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt and cook, stirring frequently, until the apples are soft and lightly golden around the edges, about 6 minutes.
Add the brown sugar and cook, stirring, until the apples are caramelized and very soft, 2 to 3 minutes longer. Add the remaining tablespoon of butter and stir to melt.
Working very quickly, pour the batter evenly over the top of the apples. Using oven mitts or pot holders, transfer the skillet to the oven and bake until the pancake is golden brown and puffed, about 15 minutes. Don't be alarmed when you see the edges of the pancake puff up over the top of the pan--this is supposed to happen!
Using oven mitts or pot holders, remove the skillet from the oven and serve the pancake immediately, sprinkled with sifted confectioners' sugar and drizzled with maple syrup.
Now it is your turn...
Go to the photo folder in your computer
Go to the 6th folder of photos.
Go to the sixth picture.
Put the picture on your blog and description of it.
Invite six friends to join the challenge.

CAST PARTY minus the GREEN ROOM
So after Kacee's 'Tony Award' winning performance we went out to Baskin Robbin's to celebrate. She actually sang a solo in her play!!! She did a great job and you could tell she was having a good time. The best part about watching her was that she was up there saying all the lines along with the other kids!
So while we were at ice cream, we had a fun time playing with my camera. Kate and I took a picture together. Funny thing about this picture is that while we were both holding onto the cone, she was breathing. I think she gave me mouth to mouth...

Hey Aunt Kori, Can I Borrow Your...
So My niece Kacee calls me on the phone. She is super excited and says to me:
"I got a part in my school play!
Kacee that's AWESOME!
And guess what? I am a librarian!!!
WOW that is really COOL!
Can I borrow a sweater vest?
SWEATER VEST???
(I hear my sister cackling in the background!)
Kacee I don't have a sweater vest!
You have too, all librarians wear sweater vests."
I am not sure where this came from, but I do know that I do not or will not ever, wear a sweater vest in my library!
Now glasses I could help you out with...SEE NEXT POST!

Do You Know The Way To San Jose?
Rachel had a volleyball tournament in San Jose this past President's Day weekend. We had a great time riding the Light Rail around the city.
Do you remember being 14 and 15 and taking crazy pictures? Every time someone had a camera out, they were posing with statues and making crazy faces.
The highlight of the trip was getting an autograph from Keri Walsh aka USA Beach Volleyball SUPERSTAR! I missed the great picture of her signing Rachel's volleyball because someone walked right in front of the camera! Thanks a lot...Did I mention that we stood in line forever...almost 2 hours! What a mom won't do for her child!
See!!! This is Neil's head. Just big enough to block the entire picture...
They did block the ball on this shot...Rachel needs more GIDDY in her UP, hahahaha!
It rained almost the entire weekend but we had a great time!
